| Polaris Soccer Club is an all-volunteer club founded in 1992 to serve the Arlington, TX soccer
community. It began as a low-cost alternative to the big "power" clubs in Tarrant County.
The vision was simple: provide a place where girls could play and develop a love for the game at a
comfortable pace. This philosophy remained until 2000 when a few coaches got together and decided
to make something more out of Polaris. Since then, the club administrators and coaches have worked
diligently to change the perception of Polaris into a more competitive club. Our goal changed from
being a low-cost alternative to becoming the premier club in Tarrant County. Progress toward this
goal has been slow, but constant. Polaris has grown from fielding three teams in 2000, none of
whom were strong enough to play in the Lake Highlands Girls Classic League, to consistently
fielding eight teams. Of the eight teams, three of them will play in the LHGCL this year, one
in each of the three divisions. In addition, the other five teams are expected to play in the
top division of either the Arlington Premier League or the Plano Premier League. Another strong indicator of where Polaris is headed is in the creation and success of the Polaris Academy. Currently Polaris has 30-35 players training and playing as members of the Polaris Academy's 98, 99, and 00 teams. The Director of the Academy group is Amos Finger. Amos is a highly motivated and knowledgeable coach. He conducts training sessions that are fun and fast-paced. His girls play hard and always have a smile on their faces. They are the future of Polaris SC. While in the process of fielding more competitive teams, Polaris SC is developing some outstanding individual players. We've had a handful of players graduate wearing the royal and white of Polaris, and then continue their playing careers in college. Some have even earned athletic scholarships. We have several other players who have earned spots on the North Texas ODP Team, and contribute to their high school teams in the winter. Another indicator of the new vision we have at Polaris is the creation of the Polaris Training Facility. We currently have 3 full-size fields in playing condition located in Arlington. The development of this training facility will enable each team to continue their training in a more suitable environment. No more fighting for practice space among football and baseball teams. It also gives us a great location to scrimmage other club teams or cross-train with other Polaris coaches. As the needs of the teams grow, the facility will be expanded to accommodate. One more note-worthy accomplishment is the retention of our coaching staff. In an era where coaches and teams jump from one club to another or get absorbed by one of the bigger clubs, it is worth mentioning that the coaching staff at Polaris SC has remained constant for the past several years. The club administrators have been with the club for 5-7 years, and nearly all of the coaches have been with Polaris for no less than 4 years. They believe in what we're doing and they're willing to work toward making Polaris the best place to play and develop.
